Grinding Home Care

Avoid hard or chewy foods (such as chewy bread (for example, Cuban bread), popcorn, jerky, tough meats, raw apples, and raw carrots) that cause your jaw to work very hard. Choose softer foods that are easy to chew, such as eggs, yogurt, and soup. Do not chew gum.

Over the counter Motrin – three times a day (one tablet with each meal).

Warm, moist heat compresses or hot shower before bedtime.

Maintain a diary for one week to assess time of day the pain is worst, activity, duration, and what makes it better.

If problem persists, a mouth guard may be needed.
